WHY DID YOU APPLY FOR THIS GRANT?
I have been racing BMX since I was 4 years old. I have been travelling around Australia since this time competing against other kids my age at local, state and national events. In 2016 I secured a spot on the THRILL development team with THRIL BMX Australia. I love riding THRILL frames and being part of a great team of riders from across Australia. I have experienced many positive achievements in BMX and many disappointments. The combination of these experiences has taught me how to deal with difficult situations and manage my emotions when times are tough or things have not gone my way. I have picked a sport that I love but it requires a lot of travel and related expenses. I have many hopes and dreams for the future within the sport of BMX and a Maccas grant will help my mum and dad out a little bit with managing some of the costs associated with the sport.
HOW WILL THIS GRANT BENEFIT YOU? AND HOW DO YOU PLAN ON USING IT?
If I am successful in obtaining a grant I will plan to put this money towards my coaching expenses. Currently I train three times a week with my coach Justin from Cheetah BMX Coaching. My weekly coaching expenses total to approx $85 per week. I train at two BMX tracks. Monday nights I train at Grafton BMX and Thursday nights I train at the Coffs Coast BMX Club. Every second week I attend a private coaching session in Grafton with Justin and every second Tuesday I complete off the bike training with Justin. The grant would help to manage those weekly coaching expenses.
WHAT ARE YOUr HOPES AND DREAMS FOR THE FUTURE?
I have really big goals for this year 2020.
1. To place in the top 3 in Australia for the 11 boys category at the Australian National Championships in Tasmania in March 2020. (I turn 11 in March)
2. To WIN the NSW State Titles to be held in Sydney in October 2020
3. To qualify and secure a place on the Mighty 11’s Trans-Tasman Test Team and represent Australia in New Zealand at the end of October 2020
4. One day I want to go and compete at the World Titles for BMX – my mum and dad and my coach have said they will get me there when I am “ready” so I have some achievable goals set out for this year which will then move me in the right direction of those bigger World Title Goals.
WHO INSPIRES YOU THE MOST?
Ollie Moran is an Elite BMX rider from Tamworth and I really like his style of riding and who he is as a person. Ollie has represented BMX and Australia at local, state, national and world events. He is focused and determined and a very skilled rider. He is also a really great all round.
I also love surfing and playing football at my local town Woolgoolga. Josh Addo-Carr inspires me as he can run really fast and he has great football skills.
