McDonald’s Junior Grant Recipients – October
Grant Recipient: Big River Canoe Club – Grafton
Number of Children: 30+
Why does the Big River Canoe Club need the McDonald’s Junior Grant? Following the flood damage to the Nymboida Canoe Centre in 2013, the Big River Canoe Club (BRCC) has had to broaden its’ focus from predominately white water paddling, to include flat water paddling, leaving the club short of the needed equipment for this.
In what way can theMcDonald’s Junior Grant help your club? Even though we have received a few donated second-hand flat-water boats, we are still in need of more paddles to enable these boats, and the McDonald’s Junior Grant would enable the purchase of paddles from a local supplier, who have offered to specially design the boats to suit school-aged children, one of whom gained three first place positions in the NSW CHS Championships earlier this year.
What are your hopes for the clubs’ future in your local community? The local school children have shown a love for the sport, and our club would love to be able to provide local schools with the option to take kayaking up as a school sport.
