Woolgoolga Junior Surf Lifesaving Club ( Nippers)
WHAT HAVE YOUR ACHIEVEMENTS BEEN SO FAR?
Woolgoolga Junior Nippers is a program run by volunteers and parents of the children involved with the club and encourages all children from ages 5-17 to develop to their full potential. Our nippers program provides a safe and friendly environment where children and parents learn surf safety and surf lifesaving skills. All children train for swimming, boards, beach sprint, beach flags and junior ironman/woman on Sundays during the spring & summer months and our really competitive children also board train 3 days per week. Quite a few kids in our club have been very successful in competition at Branch, Country and State levels and we have seen members from our under 14’s achieve the Junior Life Saver of the Year in 2018.
WHY DID YOU APPLY FOR THIS GRANT?
Woolgoolga Nippers Club relies on our fundraising efforts to be able to supply the club with boards, flags and equipment for the children to use during training and competition. The children of the club help with these fundraising efforts with things like shifts for rubbish removal and clean up after local events like curry fest & blues & berries. The parents help out with the BBQ every Sunday. These fundraising efforts help immensely, however, our club is in desperate need of much more equipment.
HOW WILL THIS GRANT BENEFIT YOU? AND HOW DO YOU PLAN ON USING IT?
The grant will benefit Woolgoolga Junior nippers club by contributing to the purchase of a new board trailer, boards and Flags. This will mean that the kids will have a better experience of training and competition and that out club can maintain the supply of boards required at competition.
WHAT ARE YOU HOPES AND DREAMS FOR THE FUTURE?
I have asked many of our kids about there hopes and dreams for the club and what they wish to do with their surf life saving skills in the future. I got some pretty fabulous answers like, compete in the Australian Ironman triathlon, teach tourists about surf safety, be the best Lifesaver Australia has ever seen and help the people that come to Woolgoolga stay safe on the beach. These are some of the best answers I could have hoped for as it shows our kids really want to keep others safe and have fun doing it.
