WHAT HAVE YOUR ACHIEVEMENTS BEEN SO FAR?

Our school has 7 people who have qualified to be on the Australian Squad and 5 of these are children between 11 and 17 years of age. We will be travelling to New Zealand in October to represent Australia against the New Zealand team of martial artists. To qualify to be on the the Australian Team they needed to compete and go through a qualifying process in 2018 and end up in the top 5 ranked athletes in Australia, which they did and some cam away with the title of Australian Champion.

WHY DID YOU APPLY FOR THIS GRANT?

To help subsidise the cost of getting the athletes and students to New Zealand and to also promote the achievements of these talented students who come from a small country town.

HOW WILL THIS GRANT BENEFIT YOU? AND HOW DO YOU PLAN ON USING IT?

To help the families and the martial art school pay for flights, accommodation, food, car hire, and tournament entry to the New Zealand championships in October. Throughout this year the cost has been quite high to attend the Australian training sessions in Sydney – travel and accommodation as well as purchasing the Australian squad team uniform. We have been fundraising in various way so far throughout the year – car washes, pie drives, collecting bottles, raffles and selling chocolates.

WHAT ARE YOU HOPES AND DREAMS FOR THE FUTURE?

To highlight the talent that we have in the Macleay Valley and to keep promoting the benefits of martial arts. These students have been working extremely hard for the last 18 months to get to this point. It shows that commitment and hard work can pay off.

WHO INSPIRES YOU THE MOST?

As a Coach and Instructor – all of my students inspire me daily. All my students are of different ages and abilities, they work extremely hard, they are committed, they are loyal and I can see all of their futures being so bright.
